L.H.D.O.R.
An homage to the art movements found in the spring of the 20th century. A reference to rebellion against logic favouring imagination, nonsense and pushing the boundaries of the narrow mindedness of society. L.H.D.O.R. appears to be what it is not. A misspelling of “L’Age D’or”.
Straps that can be worn short or long. A letter shaped pocket stuck to the cover of a bag. Wallets un-folding from one single piece.
The doctor’s bag guarding the tools to enter your mind. Leather books that can be worn but not placed on a shelf. Splattered patterns on the leather lining, simulating the interior of old books. Some may even have ants craling along the leather.
Because things don’t have to be what they seem and a book should not be judged by its cover.
Our inspiration for this video was Salvador Dali’s method, “Slumber with a Key”
“Slumber with a key” is a technique created to provide both visual inspiration and the necessary rest for the mind and hand, to stay sharp and steady for the labors of painting.
It basically consists in a very brief nap ‘less than a quarter of a second long’ used to channel the fluid space between wake and sleep, where sensations and perceptions of the day re-surface as hypnagogic images (hypnagogic: from the Greek hypnos ‘sleep’ + agōgos ‘leading’ = ‘leading to sleep’)
“You must seat yourself in a bony armchair, preferably of Spanish style, with your head tilted back and resting on the stretched leather back. Your two hands must hang beyond the arms of the chair, to which your own must be soldered in a supineness of complete relaxation. […]
In this posture, you must hold a heavy key which you will keep suspended, delicately pressed between the extremities of the thumb and forefinger of your left hand. Under the key you will previously have placed a plate upside down on the floor…. The moment the key drops from your fingers, you may be sure that the noise of its fall on the upside down plate will awaken you.”
